Jaan Toomik

Jaan Toomik (1961) is a video artist, painter and filmmaker.

Since the late 1980s, Jaan Toomik has attracted attention in the Estonian art world as a painter and since the early 1990s as an installation and video artist. He is often described by critics as the most internationally renowned Estonian contemporary artist, referring in particular to his highly acclaimed video works (e.g. Father and Son, 1998).

He has taken part in major exhibitions such as the São Paulo Biennale (1994), ARS ’95 (1995), Manifesta 1 (1996), the International Venice Biennale (1997; 2003), the 4th Berlin Biennale of Contemporary Art (2006), etc. He has also participated in other major exhibitions.
