Ida Nõmmerga
Ida Nõmmerga (b. 2002) is an Estonian artist who grew up in Hamburg but studies painting in DresdenAcademy of Fine Arts and will continue her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from October 2026..
Her work is intuitive and experimental. Working on canvas and sometimes directly on walls, she explores material, chance and the emergence of images.
She is interested in simple, almost childlike forms as well as mystical and symbolic motifs, influenced in part by Estonian folklore and her personal background.
In her wall paintings, the work changes together with the space – pigment disperses, transfers and transforms the white gallery into a kind of living cave. On canvas, she uses unprimed fabric and paints from the reverse side, allowing the oil to seep through the material. She trusts process and intuition more than a predetermined outcome.
In October 2026, Artrovert Gallery presented “Embracing the Trace”, a duo exhibition by Britta Benno and Ida Nõmmerga.
